You heard it here first – the show must go on!
Despite the unfortunate announcement on Monday by the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, we are still going ahead with the Charity game on 10th July 2021. Management had a meeting on Tuesday to discuss all the variables, pros and cons etc and we decided that we not only want to host this event but need to go ahead with the game – rugby has to return to Brickfields!
We have been speaking to and will continue to liaise with the relevant local authorities to ensure we are COVID compliant and that our spectators and staff will feel safe and COVID secure. We have even been gaining guidance from our friends up at Sandy Park on how best to make the day work, and we will do our utmost to make sure this event is one not to be missed!!
This is going to be a pre-sale ticket event and therefore no tickets will be available at the gate so please make sure you head to our website to get your hands on them before they sell out.
As always we are looking for volunteers for not only this charity match, but also various matchday jobs, so if you are interested, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Other than that, we are so excited to welcome fans back to the stadium!!
Admin done, now onto the fun stuff…
Earlier this year a local charity, Friends and Families of Special Children, contacted us at Albion to let us know that they had three spaces available for the 2021 virtual London Marathon to be held on the 3rd October 2021.
They were keen to get an entrant from Albion, Argyle and Raiders, but unfortunately, due to their strict training regimes, the players would not be an option, that and the fact that they are likely to be (hopefully) back playing games on the weekends! However, being a keen runner myself, I immediately jumped at the chance to run and raise money for such a great (and local) charity.
Jimmy Dickinson (from Argyle) and I are a definite and we are just waiting for confirmation from Raiders that they have someone to join us. We will be sharing our progress over the various social media channels, and I will be setting up a Virgin Money Giving page to keep you all up to date!
Friends and Families’ mission is to ‘work with families with children with disabilities and additional needs to provide the highest quality of services that make them feel valued, improve their wellbeing and experience the best quality of life possible’.
Something that really struck home with me was that it was founded by a small group of parents who had noticed a huge gap in the service provision for children with disabilities and their families within Plymouth and the surrounding areas. And as you well know, family is one of the top priorities for us at here at Albion.
I am so pleased that we are connecting our city’s clubs like this, something that us along with Raiders and Argyle are truly passionate about.
Talking of the partnerships between our clubs; I have been loving watching the #ballstocovid competitions on social media. In these short videos players from all three sports compete in various competitions at Home Park, Brickfields and Marjon’s to see who comes out on top, as well as have a good laugh!
So far we have seen the crossbar challenge at Home Park, where of course (and may I say. thank goodness) the Argyle boys came out on top. Following this we headed to Marjon’s, Raiders HQ, to compete in the three-point challenge where (of course) Raiders took the title.
It may seem all doom and gloom for the Albion boys, however, next they are heading to the mighty Brickfields and will be faced with kicking legend, Connor Eastgate!
You can catch up on the first two on social media as well as on our youtube channel by and the next one will be released very soon!
In this column, I will be talking of my experiences at Albion and would love to hear some questions you may have on what goes on behind the scenes and I’d love to hear some feedback. Email me at email@example.com. Until then stay Safe! Ellie.
