Squire Relishing 100th Appearance With Mills

By Alfie Martin “Nothing changes” according to Plymouth Albion centre Dean Squire, who marks his 100th appearance in the club’s National League One fixture against Cambridge at Brickfields on Saturday (2pm). Squire says he is excited to run out to a home crowd alongside his teammates on this special occasion. He said, “This is a massive experience for all three of us to achieve and the chances of us all doing so on the same day are slim”. “We’ll be looking forward to...

The National League Pathway

The National Leagues have a strong history of helping players take their next steps in the sport. When tuning into the Six Nations over the next month or so, several of England’s current squad have experienced tiers three and four on route to representing their country on the international stage. For example, the likes of Kyle Sinckler, Maro Itoje and Tom Curry have represented Richmond, Old Albanian and Sale FC, respectively, and this particular pathway to the top is continuing to flourish. We are now seeing, arguably more than ever, National League clubs assisting the Premiership in terms of the...

Albion Have a Point to Prove Against Blackheath

By Alfie Martin Tighthead prop Jack Higgins insists that Plymouth Albion will be looking to ‘bounce back’ following their 26-25 loss to Sale FC last weekend. Albion have a chance to get back to winning ways as they continue their National League One campaign tomorrow with an away trip to Blackheath (3pm). James Scaysbrook’s side will make the journey to the London-based club with hopes of reviving their spell of excellence, which was dealt a blow by their narrow defeat last weekend. By Kevin Westlake Plymouth Albion has had something of a resurgence in recent weeks, with four wins from four in 2020 so far, but a tough trip to Sale was one match too far for the Plymouth men. Head Coach James Scaysbrook made a number of changes to his side, including the return of winger Josh Skelcey in favour of injured Sam Morley and Pete Ingoldsby replacing skipper George Mills in the back row. They also welcomed the return of front row pairing Dan Pullinger and James Kenny to the bench after long term injuries. Albion’s weekend did not start...

Wounded Sale will be a tough test for Albion

By Alfie Martin Plymouth Albion head coach James Scaysbrook will have his eyes on a fifth consecutive league win when his team make the trip to Sale FC tomorrow (2pm). Last week’s 44-21 home victory over Rosslyn Park marked the side’s fourth win on the trot in an impressive start to Albion’s 2020 league campaign. But Albion cannot afford to let their guard down as they travel to Sale today. Their opposition will be seeking revenge after falling short at Brickfields earlier this season. Speaking after their toppling of second-placed Rosslyn Park, the former Exeter back-rower had plenty of praise for...
