STATEMENT ON LONDON WELSH LIQUIDATION

Championship Preview 140913

It was with much sadness that Plymouth Albion learnt that London Welsh RFC have ceased to be a professional club following a decision by the RFU earlier this week.  It was with deep sorrow we, like all rugby fans worldwide, heard the news of the loss of this iconic and historic club, with whom we have enjoyed many matches over the years.  However London Welsh Druids, their amateur team will continue to play in Herts/Middlesex 1 and their Ladies Team in Championship South West 2 with our own Ladies Team.

This means that no side will be relegated from the Greene King IPA Championship this season, one team will be promoted from National Division One to the Championship; 2 teams will be relegated from ND1 to ND2N/S with 3 teams promoted to ND1 (winners of ND2 North and South and playoff winner between 2 second placed teams); this principal will continue down the pyramid.
