Albion 29 – Leeds Tykes 18

Plymouth Albion got back to winning ways with a crucial 29-18 win against Leeds Tykes in a tremendous advert for National League One rugby at Brickfields. By Rob Kershaw Leeds entered the game having claimed six wins from their opening 16 fixtures – just one of which coming away from home – and both sides knew the importance of this one, given their proximity to the drop zone. Albion were looking to avenge a cruel late defeat at home to Sale two weeks prior and, given their one-point deficit to Tykes with a game in hand over the former Premiership...

Big month for Albion begins with crucial Tykes clash

At the start of the season, not many rugby aficionados would have tipped two of the mightiest clubs in the division to be competing at the bottom end of the table but, at the beginning of February, that is the reality. Leeds and Plymouth Albion are traditionally more versed at competing not just at the top of the table but at the top of the league above and this weekend’s game really is the veritable ‘8 pointer’With one league point separating the teams, the visitors have the same number of league wins and both squads will know this game has...

Albion 7 – Sale FC 10

Plymouth Albion 7-10 Sale FC Report by Robert Kershaw  |  Photography by David Cunningham Plymouth Albion fell to a cruel National League One defeat as Sale FC came out 10-7 winners in a competitive encounter at Brickfields stadium. The visitors had won 11 of their opening league games, and now five away from home, following their efforts in Devon. It was a much nicer day than two weeks ago for the rain-sodden visit of Bishop’s Stortford ahead of Albion’s reverse fixture with Sale, having been defeated in a close affair in Manchester earlier in the season. Albion entered the game...

Stern test for Albion against Sale FC

Albion face a stern test this week with the visit of high-flying Sale Sharks to the Brickfields. After a weekend to forget against Rams, this game couldn’t come soon enough for the Ocean Cities finest and has a fair bit of spice lingering from the game back in September. On that date, the home side flew into a 26-10 half-time lead only for an injury raved Albion to battle back to a 27-28 lead with eight minutes left. Sadly, Sale wrestled control and scored twice in that period as the visitors fatigued. This seemed to be the catalyst for Sale...

Lacklustre Albion fall to resurgent Rams

Report by Chris Bentley / Photography by s2s Photography The Albion coaching staff must be struggling to see what the secret sauce is that diminishes the potency of their charges on the road. Two dominant home bonus point wins have each been followed by blunt road trips, first to Taunton and now Reading-based Rams. This week’s loss was especially galling as the host club were reduced to 14 men after just 20 minutes of action at Old Bath Road. Albion were forced into a late change going into the game as hooker Max Norey dropped out suffering from a stomach...

A buoyant Plymouth Albion face Rams

A buoyant Plymouth Albion make one of their shorter trips this weekend as they head to Reading to take on an enigmatic Rams outfit. On the back of two bonus-point wins at the Brickfields, the visiting team is starting to fulfil early-season expectation and will certainly be looking to upset the apple cart! Following a very promising start to the season, Rams have lost four of their last six games and will certainly face a considerable challenge at Old Bath Road. In the reverse fixture, the Rams took an early lead against an injury-ravaged Albion and survived a strong fightback...
