Eastgate returns to the West

Former Albion utility back Connor Eastgate resigns from Watsonians Having missed the tail end of last term and the beginning of this season, club favourite Connor Eastgate has re-joined Plymouth Albion.  Following a sabbatical playing in the Scottish Super Six competition, he will return to Plymouth in Early November and will be available for selection soon after. Originally a Fly half, Eastgate has played for Albion in a host of backline positions and spent the previous four seasons impressing consistently with his booming kick and silky hands. Speaking of his return he added ‘I’m excited to be coming back –...

Wilko gets over for four in rout of Esher

Report by Chris Bentley / Photography by David Cunningham Harry Wilkinson was the deserved man of the match as Albion scored a bumper 45-29 win over newly promoted Esher at the Brickfields on Saturday afternoon. Albion fancied their chances against the London-based newcomers and started at a breakneck pace with ‘pocket rocket’ Kyle Speare (making his run-on debut) especially prominent on the right wing. Esher had not read the script however and repelled a few early skirmishes before taking a three-point lead on ten minutes. It didn’t take the Ocean City’s finest long to respond as the pack drove over...

Albion look to add to promising start

Report by Rob Kershaw Matchday five sees Plymouth Albion play at home for only the second time this season as they face off against Esher on Saturday afternoon. The Ocean City side picked up a losing bonus point in Gloucestershire last time out, after an explosive start was undone by a clinical Cinderford side. However, the quality of the performances so far, as well as the immense grit on display, will have been enough to convince Damian Welch that this team is heading in the right direction. Damian’s men were mightily unlucky not to take all five points at home...

Albion fall to 41-28 defeat at Cinderford

Report by Rob Kershaw Plymouth Albion were forced to settle for a four-try bonus point despite a very strong first-half display at the Forest of Dean-based outfit Cinderford on Saturday afternoon. Playing with a slight breeze and on a clear and bright day, Albion started with some solid early possession in the hosts half. Cinderford responded and made their way back up the pitch with some well worked line-outs drives in a competitive opening 10 minutes. Things looked positive for the visitors as they got into the final five metres 15 minutes in, but they were penalised by the referee,...

Albion change up for Cinderford

Report by Chris Bentley / Photography by David Cunningham Plymouth Albion face their second shortest away trip of the season today as they head up the M5 to face Forest of Dean side Cinderford. After a positive yet frustrating start, with 9 league points but just 1 win gained from the first 3 games, this really is an intriguing contest. Cinderford currently sit directly above Albion and will fancy their chances but have not looked as convincing this term with a heavy loss to Rosslyn Park being backed up with scrappy wins over Birmingham Moseley and perennial strugglers Leeds. Their...

Albion 24 – Sale FC 27

Report by Rob Kershaw / Photography by David Cunningham Plymouth Albion were unfortunate to fall to a narrow defeat at the hands of Sale on Saturday, but they did take 2 bonus points for their tremendous efforts and certainly showed their positive start to the season is now something to take note of. Last season the home team were rock bottom of National Division One for the first 5 games with no league points, after 3 games (including the teams that finished second and fourth last term) they sit pretty in the mid-table with 9 league points. On a beautiful,...

Finally back at Brickfields

Plymouth Albion v Sale FC, Saturday 17th September – K/O 3 PM Report by Rob Kershaw It has been a solid start to the new season for Albion, and this weekend, it is time for the Ocean City side to return to Brickfields Stadium for the first home game of the new season. Two losing bonus points in Cambridge were followed by a superb win away at Taunton last weekend, and that was despite four of the 20 travelling players being stuck on the M5. Unbelievable traffic also prevented a lot of our support from being there last time out,...

Albion defeat Taunton in dramatic local derby

Report by Chris Bentley / Photography by David Cunningham Plymouth Albion overcame challenges on and off the field last weekend to mark their first bonus point win of the season against a very industrious Taunton Titans side. With traffic severely delayed along the M5, the ‘Cornish Connection’ of Herbie Stupple, Jack Oulton, Torin Clarke and Isaak Welch and the Albion supporters coach; who travelled up independently of the team, spent nearly all of their afternoon stuck in what turned out to be an eight-hour traffic jam. Prior to the game, having delayed the kick-off by nearly an hour waiting for...
