Albion v Rosslyn Park

Match Report – Plymouth Albion 8 Rosslyn Park 37  Report by Paddy Marsh Photography by David Cunningham   In their first competitive match for 536 days, Plymouth Albion with nine players making their debuts were well beaten by a Rosslyn Park side who are one of the favourites to win National 1. Playing with a strong wind behind them in the first half Albion took an early lead and were very much in the game at half time trailing by only three points. It was a different story in the second as Park dominated the game running in four more...

Albion 21 – Exeter Uni 41

After a very promising start to the preseason, coach Damian Welch’s Albion side suffered their first loss to a very well drilled Exeter University side. With the support of Exeter Chiefs, they have certainly become a force to be reckoned with after a meteoric rise to the Southwest Premier division in the space of 10 seasons. Fielding a much-changed side, Albion themselves were also bolstered by four Chiefs Academy players, including a familiar name to the Brickfields faithful; Nowell, only this time It wasn’t Jack but his younger brother Frankie! He was joined by Max Norey, Danny Southworth, Bailey Williams...

Albion bag second pre-season win against Okehampton, 40-0!

Boasting a former Harlequin and Exeter Chief in their team and coached by Albion favourite Gaz Evans, the visiting Okehampton squad will have had high aspirations catching Albion on a short turnaround. Sadly, for them, this season’s crop are made of stern stuff and, built upon a very solid forward platform, there was only going to be one winner at the Brickfields. Well over 500 days since they last took the field in a competitive game, Plymouth Albion started the post lockdown era in a highly competitive game with local rivals Redruth.   Coaches Damian Welch and Ryan Lamb will be heartened with the win but know there is a fair bit of work to be done to ensure the team are competing at the top end of National One this term.   The game started with Albion charging out of the blocks and it was only a last-ditch tackle on the impressive John Dawe that stopped a try before there was...
