Albion look to return to winning ways at Brickfields

After a tough defeat on the road last weekend, Albion have a chance to resurrect their impressive early season form against Darlington Mowden Park at home on Saturday. Tries from Harry Wilkinson and Davy McGregor were ultimately cancelled out by a fine display from Bishop’s Stortford, who would take all five points. That moved them narrowly ahead of the Ocean City’s finest in the table heading into game week nine of the season, but in such a tight battle in this remarkable division, positions can be gained and lost in a heartbeat. Each game is crucial as a result, and...

Albion fall to defeat at Stortford

Report by Rob Kershaw Plymouth Albion’s three-game win streak came to an end on Saturday afternoon as they suffered a 31-19 loss at the hands of Bishop’s Stortford. Although the margin of victory was 14 points, the game was in the balance until the last play with the hosts scoring in the final act of a closely fought game. Stortford got off to a quick start, going over early doors through James Ayton, before former Albion ace Dan Powell added the extras to give visitors an early curveball. The response was a strong one from the Ocean City’s finest, whose...

Albion look to continue good form at Stortford

Report by Rob Kershaw / Photography by David Cunningham Three wins on the bounce, with the best will in the world, was a bit unheard of for Albion last season, but this is a different team entirely. The squad have been showing their improved integration so far in 2022-23, and proving that they are a team to be reckoned with in the top half of National League One. Who wins any given game in this division is anyone’s guess, but there was little doubt as to last weekend’s result against Hull, in which the Ocean City boys gained five impressive...

KCML step up their game at Albion

Ambitious southwest chartered surveying firm KCML have upped their commitment to Plymouth Albion in the 22/23 season with an enhanced sponsorship agreement. After dipping a toe last season, supremo John Hooper has doubled their advertising boards, added hospitality, and sponsored the sleeves of Albion’s new warm-up shirts as they look to match the ambitious aims of the Ocean Cities finest. Speaking of the deal, Albion Commercial Director Chris Bentley said “John has been a great addition to the Albion family over the last two seasons as he has not just supported on the field but off with the donation of...

Albion 45 – Hull 5

Report by Rob Kershaw / Photography by David Cunningham A resurgent Plymouth Albion thrashed Hull 45-5 at Brickfields to claim their fourth win of the season, and their third on the bounce. With the threatened bad weather not making its scheduled appearance, the stage was set for the Ocean Citys finest to rain on the parade of their visitors from the Northeast. Albion came out of the blocks quickly, earning a scrum and a penalty in quick succession deep in the visitors territory. From the latter, Jack Oulton tapped and went, playing an audacious kick across for the pocket battleship...

Albion look to continue resurgence

Plymouth Albion are aiming to extend their winning streak on Saturday against Hull when the Yorkshire side visit the Ocean City. Hull sit bottom of the table after six defeats from their opening six games, putting 135 points on the board. 72 of those have been registered away from home, so despite a difficult start to life in National One this season, Gary Pearce’s players are certain to prove a tough bunch. Albion showed plenty of grit of their own in their late, great showing away at Chinnor last weekend, and we are a healthy sixth in the league after...

WIN! 30-22 away win at Chinnor

Report by Rob Kershaw / Photography by David Howlett  A National League classic saw the resurgent Plymouth Albion take a thrilling 30-22 away win over Oxford-based outfit Chinnor on Saturday afternoon. It was an important game in the context of the “mini-league,” as Ryan Lamb described it, below the two unbeaten sides, but both teams have shown the potential to compete with the big boys in the big games this term. Chinnor, playing with a very strong wind at their back,  got an early lead when they won a penalty in front of the posts, with Tom Price slotting through...

Albion back in action at Chinnor

Report by Rob Kershaw / Photography by David Cunningham After a week away from National League Rugby action, it is time for the third and fourth tier to get back underway this weekend. Albion return to an away fixture at Chinnor this weekend, with a 446-mile round trip on the cards for the Ocean City side. Albion come off the back of a win over Esher in their second home game of the campaign, overcoming the Surrey-based side 45-29 in a high-scoring game, quintessential of both teams’ respective seasons so far. That followed a win on the road over the...

A familiar face takes a tough challenge

Plymouth Albion is built upon the steadfast support of some sterling people and amongst that number are the ever-popular ‘Girls on the gate’. One of the girls is undertaking a rather arduous challenge that will see her miss the home game with Hull on Saturday 22nd October. As part of her employer’s 60th birthday, Sharon Gammage will face the daunting challenge of hiking the Pen Y Fan. Having never climbed a mountain before, this is certainly a breathtaking test for one of the club’s finest, especially as she has a bit of an issue with falling at height! Her own...
