The 200 Club welcome Sam Nixon

The 200 Club celebrated their first Monthly Lunch of the close season as the membership welcomed their first sponsored player, prop Sam Nixon (Soon to be ex-Exeter Chiefs and shortly to be with FCG – Football Club de Grenoble Rugby) Following the usual light lunch of pasty and sandwiches, a couple of dozen members and supporters were treated to a potted re-cap of Sam’s progress since formally leaving Albion in early 2017. His ups and downs with Bath, loans out to Championship sides in deepest darkest Yorkshire, a rollercoaster season in Bayonne during Covid, before 2021/22 with “our perfect cousins”...

Speaking of the appointment, club MD Max Venables said “Dan was the standout candidate for the role, and I feel he has the ability to really drive our community engagement as part of the PROJECT150 initiative. We had a really positive meeting with Dwain Morgan and Daniel Hart from the...

Albion tie away at Park

Match report by Chris Bentley Rosslyn Park 28 – Albion 28 Plymouth Albion scored a highly impressive bonus point draw to draw with third placed Rosslyn Park in a game that was certainly high in drama. After securing their place in National Division One and playing a team whose own title aspirations had diminished in the previous few weeks many may have expected a case of ‘After the lord mayors show’. However, both teams put on a spectacle of attacking rugby where Albion can feel a level of regret at missing the full haul of league points. But for a...

Albion end at the beginning

Albion began their National One season campaign back in September with the visit of London based Rosslyn Park. On that day, they crumbled to a humbling 8-37 defeat. They conclude the campaign with the return fixture and will be expectant of a more positive result following a reversal in both clubs’ fortunes. With a sequence of bonus-point wins at home and four try narrow losses away, Albion certainly rose to their challenge with a strong run of form to drive the club clear of the relegation spots. On the converse, third-placed Park have seen their table-topping form depart as they...

Albion 54 – Taunton Titans 17

Report by Chris Bentley / Photography by David Cunningham Albion crush Titans and secure Division one standing in try fest at Brickfields Starting the day just outside the relegation spots, Plymouth Albion would have been forgiven for playing a very nervy and conservative gameplan against nearest rivals Taunton Titans. Needing three league points to confirm their league status, and with a visit to promotion-chasing Rosslyn Park next week, the stakes were certainly high going into the game. Around the ground, many supporters were discussing how none would like the trip to London next week if the team still needed to...

Derby day is Abion’s D-Day

Plymouth Albion face Taunton Titans this weekend in what is a huge fixture for the Ocean City club. With a couple of games left in their season, they know a minimum of three league points from their remaining matches will be enough to secure their spot in National Division One. There is no doubt they would be keen to achieve this before the away trip to Rosslyn Park next weekend. In truth, they may already have done enough as Blackheath (three league points behind) have one fixture left and face the unenviable task of having to win at Cinderford while...

Plymouth Albion Spartans fall short despite Salter’s heroics

Match report by Chris Bentley / Photography by David Cunningham Competing amongst some of the forty top rugby clubs in the nation is tough going. In the rarefied air of the higher divisions, battling amongst the most prestigious names in the rugby pantheon isn’t easy, even with a full compliment. The challenge has been made doubly hard for Plymouth Albion with a backline injury crisis leaving the team with just seventeen fit players for the last few weeks. Sadly, that lack of manpower left the Ocean Cities’ finest just short for the second week on the bounce as they continue...

Fired and ready for Leeds face-off!

Report by Chris Bentley / Photography by David Cunningham Albion face a second big trip north this weekend to fellow relegation battlers Leeds Tykes. Albion have a nine-point buffer over their hosts and it would be safe to say a win this weekend will nigh on completely extinguish the threat for the Ocean Cities’ finest and leave the Tykes and Blackheath as the only clubs staring down the barrel for the one remain position in the drop zone. Under normal circumstances and, having comfortably defeated the Tykes at the Brickfields earlier in the season, Albion would be strong favourites to...
