A determined display by Albion ends in disappointment.
Despite Albion’s best efforts and their dogged determination right until the final whilst, Albion narrowly lost out to Rosslyn Park 22 points to 17. However, Albion did pick up a vital bonus point that sees them rise one place in the National League one table to 7th Place.
Sitting in 3rd place in the table, in form Rosslyn Park had won 6 of their last games on the bounce and with eyes on the top of the table this clash was always going to be tough battle for both sides.
Two late tries from Plymouth Albion saw them pick up a losing bonus point, whilst meaning they stopped the opposition, Rosslyn Park, from picking up their won winning bonus point.
It was 13 minutes in to the game that Rosslyn Park got the first points on the board. The points came following an Albion scrum on their own 22. Turnover ball by Park saw them break from the flanker Arthur Ellis, Ellis subsequent placed the ball between the posts for the try, which was then converted by fly-half Harry Leonard.
It was 15 minutes later before Albion were able to get back level on scores. A quick ball chipped over the top, saw Dean Squire gather, with a race down the touchline, Squire got the ball over the line. Fraser Honey stepped up and made the conversion – bringing the scores to 7 a piece.
A Rosslyn Park penalty just before half time saw the home team go in to the break 3 points ahead 10-7.
The second half was started strong by Albion, pinning the hosts back in their own 22 for long periods of time, but despite the pressure, Albion were unable to add to the points. Unfortunately for Albion, 20 mins in the second half, Park were able to get themselves back in the game and regained some control.
On 64 mintues, Park were awarded their second try of the game, following a catch-and-drive. Park couldn’t convert, but had still pulled two scores clear at 15-7.
It was only shortly after the restart that Park showed some great play in the midfield, this was rewarded with a try to Rosslyn Park when Jack Gash went over in the corner, and with Leonard converting, the lead stretched to 15 points, 22-7.
A determined display by Albion, showed they weren’t ready to give up, this led to a great try set up by No. 8 Herbie Stupple, who handed the ball to Squire to go over the touchline for his second of the game. Unfortunately, Honey couldn’t add the conversion, bringing the score line to 22-12 in Park’s Favour.
It was in the very last minute of the game that Albion were able to take the losing bonus point, with Herbie Stupple touching down following a strong drive. The game ended with points at 22-17 to Rosslyn Park.
