9th February Bishop’s Stortford vs Plymouth

Report by Kevin Westlake.  Plymouth Albion made the nearly 600 mile round trip to Hertfordshire looking to continue the run of good form in 2019.  They made a number of changes from the team that triumphed at Brickfields the week before, including the introduction of Joe Snow at Scrum Half and Dan Swain and Dan Collier in the pack. In dry but windy conditions, the game started badly for Albion with a very early try from the home side through Fly Half George Cullen, with Thomas Banks adding the extras to give them a 7-0 lead. The game increased in...

2nd February Plymouth v Cinderford

By Jack Guthrie Plymouth Albion 21 – Cinderford 10.  Another dominant defensive display by Plymouth Albion helped them to a third win in a row and a move up to seventh place in National League One, following a 21-10 victory over a physical Cinderford side. The visitors never got a sniff in the first half, with excellent kicking and chasing from the home side’s backs keeping the ball at the Cinderford end for a 14-0 half-time lead. And, while they fought back after the break, outscoring their hosts with a more disciplined display, Albion head coach Keiran Hallett was pleased...

26th January Caldy vs Plymouth

Match Report provided by Kevin Westlake. Following Albion’s impressive win against Cambridge at Brickfields last weekend, Kieran Hallett’s men had the long road trip to Caldy to look forward to. The second longest of the season against opposition who sat just two places below Albion after Round 19. Caldy had lost narrowly at Esher the week before and would be looking to avenge a 24-14 loss to the Plymouth club at Brickfields earlier in the season. Albion on the other hand were looking to complete the double over the Cheshire based club and to further climb the National One table...

19th January Plymouth v Cambridge

By Jack Guthrie at Brickfields.  29 Plymouth Albion – Cambridge 17  Plymouth Albion secured a vital win against mid-table rivals Cambridge, dominating the opponents in the second half to come from behind and win 29-17 in their first home match after a month-long stint of away fixtures. Trailing 17-10 at half-time and with their work cut out against a physical and well-drilled Cambridge side, Albion completely turned it around after the break, scoring three tries no none for a bonus-point win in front of a delighted Brickfields crowd. Albion head coach Kieran Hallett was full of praise for the attacking...

12th January Ampthill vs Plymouth

Plymouth Albion arrived at a Dillingham Park following 4 wins on the bounce in National League One and what started promising, ended in disappointment for Albion. Previous games between the two clubs have always been close, with the first half panning out to look like a repeat, however, in the second half Ampthill prioved to be too much for Albion. Albion’s intentions were clear right at the start and within 6 minutes Albion took the lead with a try from John kelly after some great work from the forwards in the red zone. The conversion was missed, but Albion were...

5th January Blackheath vs Plymouth

BLACKHEATH RFC 27 vs PLYMOUTH ALBION RFC 32 Albion made the 500 mile round trip to South East London looking to extend the 3 match winning sequence earned before the Christmas break and with Blackheath sitting in second position in National League 1 after a good start in 2018 it was always going to be a difficult road trip. In dry conditions, the game started with a period of immediate pressure from a very hungry looking Blackheath forward unit. They were camped in the Albion 22 for prolonged periods but managed to knock the ball on at the final stages of...

22nd December Plymouth vs Esher

‘Could Albion make it three from three?’ was question all the fans were asking before the game and Albion certainly responded with a crucial win to boost them another place up the National 1 table heading in to the new year, meaning they now sit at mid table. The conditions were almost perfect for the game, on and off the pitch, this saw 1216 eager Albion supporters coming through the gate to watch their team secure the win. After a superb away win to Loughborough last week, the team only had two changes to the line-up, with Matt Shepherd coming...

15th December Loughborough Students v Plymouth

Loughborough Students 6 vs Plymouth Albion 34  Credit Kevin Westlake. Albion were back on the road following their win against Sale FC at Brickfields last week, with a difficult looking trip to Loughborough Students. The students have consistently scored highly at home and away with varied results, but Albion made the trip up the M42 with a desire to stem the flow. In miserable conditions with a windchill of -2c, Albion produced their best away display of the season, controlling the ball for much of the game and preventing Loughborough from utilising their impressive back line. Albion started against a very...

8th December Plymouth vs Sale FC

Report by Paddy Marsh.  When you have lost your last five games any win is crucial and certainly welcome. Albion’s poor recent run saw us slip into one of the National League One relegation places, but this narrow victory over newly promoted Sale FC will be a big boost to the players and the coaches. The strong wind that was blowing right down the pitch had a big influence on the match. Not for the first time this season, both teams on show played better into the wind, an advantage Albion had in the second half. A relieved Head Coach...

1st December Birmingham Moseley vs Plymouth

A disappointing game way to Birmingham Moseley, see Plymouth Albion lose 48 points to 26, dropping Plymouth to 14th place in National League One. Plymouth Albion travelled to Birmingham Moseley looking for their first win in five games, having lost out on the previous four games, but it was the home side, Birmingham Moseley, that came out of the blocks firing on all cylinders! With Roach & Hearle on the wings and Nick David at full-back, Moseley’s backline offered up searing pace, which Plymouth Albion failed to contain, it had looked like plain sailing for Moseley with Williams crossing the...
