New Plymouth Albion head coach James Shanahan will be using long standing relationships with members of the Exeter Chiefs coaching staff to further develop and strengthen links between the two clubs.
Shanahan played with and against Rob Baxter while he was a player at Exeter and also played alongside Ali Hepher when they were registered with Bedford Blues.
Shanahan knows Robin Cowling from his time at Exeter, and was a team mate of Ricky Pellow during his two seasons at the Cornish Pirates.
While Shanahan was Director of Rugby at Cambridge RFC he worked with new Chiefs coach Rob Hunter, who at the time was the Academy manager at Northampton Saints.
Last year Shanahan and Hunter were on the same RFU level 4 coaching course.
This season a number of Exeter Chiefs players have been dual registered with Plymouth Albion, an arrangement Shanahan is very keen to further develop.
Shanahan said, “Dual registered players from Exeter Chiefs will be massively important to Plymouth Albion next season. Chiefs have a number of really talented youngsters who are very well coached. What Plymouth Albion can offer them is highly competitive rugby in the Championship. To me it is a win win situation for both clubs.”
