Plymouth Albion is deeply saddened by the passing of John Robert Putt.

Putty, as he was affectionately known, suffered a short illness and passed away in Derriford Hospital on Monday 13th February.

John is survived by his wife Pat, sons Matthew and Daniel, and daughter Naomi.

John joined the Albion Juniors in the 1964/65 season and progressed through the ranks to become the regular Fly-Half for the 1st team in the late sixties, early seventies – his last season was Albion’s Centenary season 1976 /77.

After his playing days, John served on the Albion Committee and will be best remembered for the cheese and wine festivals he organised in the summer months at Beacon Park.

In later life John lived near Dartmouth, becoming a volunteer and committed member of the Dartmouth Museum. It will come as no surprise to those who knew him, but he was described as a ‘local character’.

He will be remembered.
